In AZ IT, we are helping to push the boundaries of science to deliver life changing medicines by continuously improving our IT environment and by working closely with the business to innovate for competitive advantage.
At the heart of our strategy is an obsession with our customers. We work hard to understand our business, how it operates and what we need to do in order to create maximum value. Our ability to continuously innovate and improve comes from understanding the technology landscape, making good decisions around technology selection and then implementing and running it well. Our technology decisions must be aligned with the business goals.
A key part of our IT strategy is building strong internal capability, reducing our dependence on costly third parties and simplifying the number of people involved. We have expanded our AZ IT workforce by 60% over that past two years adding more than 1000 technology roles to strengthen our internal capability. To make this possible we built a new AstraZeneca technology centre in Chennai, India. We have also established a site in Silicon Valley as well as Guadalajara, Mexico, two other global technology hotbeds.
At AstraZeneca, we are extremely aware of the vital part technology can play in scientific discovery. We are committed to the pursuit of innovation through technologies, processes, services and collaboration opportunities that add considerable value to AstraZeneca's overall mission and strategy and to deliver life changing medicines to patients. The AstraZeneca IT Leadership Programme is the perfect springboard to a senior technology role within our global business.
Starting in 2018, the two-year programme comprises four rotations, each lasting six months and each increasing in the responsibility and challenge it offers. You could be working on business process change, testing business solutions, implementing cloud-based technologies, developing mobile applications and lots more besides.
With the flexibility to tailor the programme to your own interests, you'll build expertise in all facets of IT, from project management and business analysis to application maintenance and design. You'll also interact with internal customers in functions across the business, giving you invaluable insights into AstraZeneca and the pharma industry, and the chance to influence the way decisions are made
